Owner of Perquimans Co. mobile home park impacted by tornado, providing new trailers for residents

PERQUIMANS COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Some Woodville-area residents still have no place to call home as they continue to recover from Monday’s tornado that flattened several units at a mobile home park.

Piles of debris are all that’s left for some families, and many are unsure of what rebuilding will look like, but thanks to their landlord, help is on the way.

“Very emotional, kind of sad, it hurts, but I’m grateful all at the same time,” said Longview Estates Mobile Home Park resident Tykinsten Wood.

For most, their biggest challenge is that they have nowhere to lay their head.

“I don’t think no one has thought about what we’re going to do next, if you got a plan, if you didn’t have a plan,” Wood said.

Thursday they were paid a visit by their landlord, Harley Cole, who came with a plan in hand for his tenants.

“He has already went out and said he’s got new trailers coming,” Wood said.

Cole is the owner of the Longview Estates Mobile Home Park. He was traveling Thursday evening, likely organizing plans to get those new trailers delivered.

“I’m in position to help people, and I do ” Cole said.

Cole said residents will have the choice to continue renting their trailers or buying them, which will be a big help as many scramble to figure out next steps.

“Hopefully next week, they’ll have this cleaned off and you should see new trailers sitting out here in these same areas, which is a blessing to all of us,” Wood said.

It’s a blessing during the most tragic time.

“I’m real proud of how they’ve managed themselves and everything for that much damage,” Cole said.

Said Wood: “It could’ve been the other way around you know, the houses could’ve been here but we could’ve been gone and you know we can’t be replaced.”

The new trailers are expected to be delivered in the next week.
