CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – Currituck County will now be referred to as “The Northern Outer Banks.”
Currituck County Travel & Tourism announced an official rebranding. It’s been a topic of discussion for a couple years.
The Northern Outer Banks is known for miles of beaches, including Corolla and Carova, with a unique location at the northern tip of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It encompasses the
surrounding coastal areas of its Mainland and Knotts Island.
This area is also known for the Corolla Wild Horses, historic sites such as the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Whalehead in Historic Corolla.
“The Northern Outer Banks name captures everything that makes this destination special—our
wide, pristine beaches, our storied maritime past and the untamed beauty of our wild horses,”
said Tameron Kugler, Tourism Director. “This change allows us to share our story with travelers
in a way that feels true to our heritage and the experiences we offer, as well as defining our
geographic location as the northernmost portion of the Outer Banks.”
As part of this rebranding, The Northern Outer Banks is launching immersive digital storytelling initiatives, including a new docuseries about the area’s famous wild horses and letters from visitors and locals in the “Guestbook” series.
The rebranding has already taken effect on the tourism website and on social media.
