HERTFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Deputies with the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect in an attempted murder.

According to officials, on July 5, deputies were dispatched to the area of North Murfree Street in Winton for reports of a domestic assault.

Upon arrival to the scene, deputies found the victim and transported her to ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

An initial investigation determined that the victim’s boyfriend, Cosme Zuniga-Garcia, was a suspect in the incident. Warrants were obtained against Zuniga-Garcia for attempted murder and first-degree kidnapping after he fled the area, deputies said.

Deputies said it is possible that Zuniga-Garcia is still in the Winton area. Photos of Zuniga-Garcia can be found below:
