ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) – The Museum of the Albemarle will be displaying the traveling exhibit, “Africa to Carolina,” from July 1 through Aug. 2.

The exhibit is apart of an initiative started in 2018 to identify, acknowledge and eventually physically mark the sites of disembarkation at North Carolina ports. Around 2,000 enslaved Africans were brought to North Carolina from 11 documented voyages.

The exhibit, which is free to the public, explores the Middle Passage, conditions on slave ships, the slave-trading business, laws concerning the importation of enslaved people, and methods of their resistance.
