ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — The Elizabeth City Police Department is investigating after they said human remains were found Monday evening in a wooded area off North Hughes Boulevard.
Elizabeth City Police said they responded to a call on Monday around 5:30 p.m.
When they arrived to the 400 block of North Hughes Blvd, they spoke with the caller and found the human remains.
Law enforcement said crime scene investigators and the medical examiner processed the scene. ECPD said it’s too early to determine how long the remains had been there or whether they belong to a man or a woman. The remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Greenville for examination and identification.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
