ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A career offender was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison in connection with drug and firearm charges.

According to officials, 36-year-old Charles Lamon Gregory, III was sentenced to a total of 25 years in prison on Oct. 20 after being convicted of possessing a firearm in further of a drug trafficking crime, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon in June of 2025.

Police said that on Aug. 7, 2022, officers with the Elizabeth City Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Gregory, where he was found to be in possession of a firearm and crack cocaine.

At the time of the traffic stop, police said Gregory had just been released from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections four-and-a-half months prior for robbery with a dangerous weapon.

“We will continue to arrest individuals who insist on selling poison in our community,” Police Chief Eddie Graham said. “We want to put you on notice: if you choose to commit crimes in Elizabeth City, we will arrest you and collaborate with our federal partners to prosecute you at the federal level.”
