CAMDEN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — An Elizabeth City man crashed his vehicle into a guardrail during a traffic pursuit in Camden County on Saturday night.
A Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 9 p.m. on Saturday, but the suspect fled at a high speed. He reached speeds in excess of 130 mph on the Camden Causeway.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Versaun D. Williams, lost control of the vehicle as he approached the bridge into Elizabeth City and struck a guardrail. Despite his injuries, police said he did not sustain life-threatening wounds.
Williams is currently being held at Albemarle District Jail under a $75,000 secured bond for numerous offenses. He has been charged with offenses by Camden County Sheriff’s Office as well as the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, who investigated the crash.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that reckless behavior on the roadway not only endangers the driver, but innocent lives.
