RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Calls for Democratic lawmaker Julie von Haefen continued, after she posted a a video on social media from Raleigh’s “No Kings” rally showing an image of President Donald Trump decapitated and Stephen Miller.
The image was part of a video Representative von Haefen shared after Raleigh’s ‘No Kings’ rally.
The rally was part of the larger “No Kings” protest movement against the Trump administration. In a statement made on her Facebook — shortly after deactivating her X account — von Haefen responded to the immediate backlash.
The statement read, “Let me be clear: I condemn political violence in all forms. My focus remains on bringing people together and fighting for the values that matter to North Carolinians.”
von Haefen also took to the House floor and apologized.
GOP members say it’s not enough and the representative should resign.
In a statement, NCGOP chairman Jason Simmons said in part, “The posts Rep. von Haefen shared do not show the judgement or temperament of someone to hold public office. For the good of her constituents to have effective representation, she should resign.”
Some Democrats are calling the GOP and Republican response hypocritical after top Republicans still endorsed candidates like Michele Morrow, who called for the public execution of President Barack Obama.
