NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The city of Norfolk wants to hear from residents who live near the site of the old Greenies bar in Ocean View.

Norfolk bought Greenies for $2 million from Ronnie Boone Sr. in the fall of 2018 as a part of a neighborhood revitalization project.

The bar closed its doors in mid-September after nearly 80 year in business.

Initial reports of Norfolk’s Greenies acquisition indicated the property would be converted into a parking lot. A city spokesperson said in August those reports were inaccurate.

George Homewood, Norfolk’s director of planning, said late last year, “It’s included in the plan to increase the parking, provide some residential opportunities to maximize the value of the land.”

City officials are hosting a community meeting Monday night to discuss the best use for the land.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mary D. Pretlow Library.
