NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk Police Department, already in the national spotlight following their hugely successful viral lip sync video earlier this week, was showcased on network news on Friday night.

NBC Nightly News featured Norfolk and several other police departments from across the country in response to the viral craze that has law enforcement lip syncing everything from Bruno Mars to bluegrass.

Norfolk’s rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” has already been viewed more than 48 million times on Facebook. It came after they were challenged by the Corinth Police Department near Dallas-Forth Worth, whose video set to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” also went viral.

The star of the video, Officer Christopher Tavares, was interviewed by NBC. He joked he’s taken more photos in the last three days than in the last year combined.

They’ve since challenged departments in Virginia Beach, Seattle, Washington, and Norfolk, England.

The Hampton Police Division was also challenged, and they dropped a funky video of their own Friday night.
