CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man was killed after authorities say he was ejected from a car during a crash on Interstate 464 in Chesapeake.
Virginia State Police say 67-year-old Tyrone Smith was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette northbound on I-464 near Freeman Avenue at the time of the crash Sunday evening.
According to state police, Smith was going 90 mph when he lost control, struck a guardrail, overcorrected and hit a 2012 Dodge Caravan. Smith then veered back across the road and hit the guardrail a second time, and was ejected from the car in the process.
State police say Smith suffered suffered life-threatening injuries and later died; he was not wearing a seat belt. No one in the Dodge was injured.
