NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Unitarian Church of Norfolk (UCN) is relocating and changing their name after 46 years of being in Norfolk.
The church will now be called the Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists (CVUU). On July 8, they will have their first service at their new location in Virginia Beach.
According to the church’s Communications Coordinator, Tracy Brune, the move had been planned for many years with their growing congregation size. The new location is nearly double the size of their old one.
The new church site offers more parking and, with its location along the Eastern branch of the Elizabeth River, there will be more opportunities for outdoor activities, said Brune.
The congregation purchased the office building in April of 2017 and spent the last 15 months renovating the space. According to Brune, the total cost of the new building is $3.8 million.
They made the new space environmentally-friendly and hope to become a “River Star Home,” part of the Elizabeth River Project’s pledge program.
Sunday, July 1 was their last time meeting in the Norfolk facility. They held a special service to say farewell to the location.
