NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – While attempting to take a man into custody Sunday morning, Newport News police say the suspect became combative and kicked officers.
Officers were called to Menchville Road just after 3:30 a.m. for the report of a domestic situation. They arrived and tried to speak to 43-year-old Michael Beale, but police say he was extremely intoxicated and unsteady on his feet.
When officers went to place Beale into custody for being drunk in public, he reportedly became disorderly and started kicking.
Beale was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, intoxication in public and obstruction of justice.
