A family is searching for justice after the death of a loved one.

32-year-old Nathaniel Davis, who went by Nate, was shot and killed in Newport News back in November.  Six months later, his family is still without answers.  The family says without knowing who is responsible, they can’t get closure.

On November 10th, 2017, police found Davis with a fatal gunshot wound in a car off of Stoney Creek Lane.  His family is working through their grief, still haunted by not knowing who is responsible.

“It was devastating that it happened,” said Anthony Peterson, Nate’s father.  “A senseless killing again.  It really tore the family apart.”

Six months after Nate’s death, his family still doesn’t know who did it or why. 

“When it hit home, it was just ‘oh my God’,” said Nate’s mother, Martha Davis Peterson. 

Anthony said, “Part of us is gone.  A part of us has been taken away from us way too soon.”

Nate leaves behind two young sons, now with their mother, and a network of family and friends who are devastated.

“You look at this guy and you look at that picture, all that is is a wonderful spirit,” said Dwayne Davis, Nate’s uncle. 

The family believes the truth is out there.

“Somebody knows what happened, somebody saw what happened,” said Pastor Wesley Wooten, the family’s pastor.  “Nate is a son.  He’s a father and this family is in great pain behind the fact of not having answers.”

Pastor Wooten says he’s done too many funerals for the same types of crimes.  Plus, he says people don’t want to do anything about the crime until it affects them.

“It could be you,” said Martha.  “You could be walking where I’m at and it’s not a good feeling.”

It’s that frustration with violence that’s moved this family to call for information and a change, as their search for justice far from over.
