NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News school bus driver will spend 18 months behind bars for having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Timothy Dixon pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a minor over the internet back in March.
Investigators say Dixon talked with the teen through the app “Whisper.” The teen said the two had inappropriate conversations.
The school district says he was a substitute bus driver.
Dixon was also sentenced this week to one year probation.
Dixon is also facing three child abuse and neglect charges in a separate case.
Newport News police said Dixon was arrested on July 12 for an alleged June 29 incident in which two juveniles — ages 11 and 7 — were walking unattended by a roadway.
Police said one of the juveniles led officers to a nearby Host Inn, where they were staying.
Officers found the juvenile’s 15-year-old brother there, who was deemed not capable of watching himself or his brothers. None of the juveniles were injured.
