VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigation into whether two members of a Virginia Beach-based Navy SEAL team killed an Army Green Beret has been completed, officials say.
Capt. Greg Hicks, chief navy spokesperson, said in a statement NCIS has forwarded its investigation into Staff Sgt. Logan Melgar’s death to Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic — which make an determinations on administrative or disciplinary actions.
As in all military justice matters, any charges or actions will be handled in military service channels. During this process, it is paramount that the rights of all parties – including the service member who may be the subject of the investigation – are protected, thus any additional information regarding this case will not be discussed.”
Melgar’s 2017 death in the African nation of Mali was ruled a homicide by a medical examiner.
