NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Navy chief is accused of sexually assaulting a female sailor while stationed on the USS Gonzalez.

Chief Intelligence Specialist Ray Braimer Jr. is accused of sexually assaulting the sailor in Ireland. 10 On Your Side obtained Navy court documents that detail the March 2017 assault.

Court documents say Braimer pinned the sailor down, pulled down her leggings and underwear and assaulted her while she resisted him. He also got on top of her and inappropriately touched her while she lay on the floor, court documents state.

On the same night of the assault, Braimer also allegedly climbed into a woman’s bed and tried to kiss her without her consent. He told her that she was “very beautiful,” and said he “hates the fraternization policy of the Navy that prevents him from being with any woman he found attractive because of pay grade,” according to court documents.

Months before the March assault, Braimer is said to have touched a female sailor’s knee without her permission while they were in Greece, according to court documents.

Braimer is from Texas and enlisted in the Navy in 1998. He’s been stationed in the Hampton Roads area since 2005, and was promoted to Chief in 2016.

He’s received several awards, including the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Award and the Good Conduct Medal.
