PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A protest that took place across the country in June has announced another date coming in October. The ‘No Kings’ Coalition will have another gathering nationwide.
The organization said the upcoming protest will happen in all 50 states on Oct. 18. Locally, it will happen in Norfolk and Chesapeake this fall.
According to No Kings, this is in response to recent acts taken by the Trump administration, saying, “President Trump has escalated his authoritarian agenda, threatening to deploy additional militarized forces into U.S. cities, expanding the detention and encampment of immigrants, and even suggesting that ‘maybe [America would] like a dictator.’”
One local organization, COVA Coalition says, this is another step in the growing movement.
“The GOP wants you to believe that this is all about Trump. That this is anti-Trump. It is more pro-democracy, it’s engaging, more citizenry in the political process, which is super important to COVA Coalition,” said Carrie Short with the organization.
No Kings organized a protest this past summer that had more than 5 million people across the country protesting against the President, including several protests held in Hampton Roads.
The organization says the October date is another step in the growing movement.
