(NewsNation) – Singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson announced Wednesday that she was postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas residency “to be fully present” for her children while dealing with a family matter.

Clarkson, in posts to her social media accounts, had said that her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock had been sick.

The following day, People and TMZ reported that Blackstock had died.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a representative for Blackstock’s family told People on Thursday. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Prior to Thursday’s tragic news, Clarkson had told fans that she would be postponing “the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas.”

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote.

Clarkson apologized to fans who bought tickets and thanked them for their “grace, kindness and understanding.”

Clarkson previously canceled the first two shows of the “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions – The Las Vegas Residency” at Caesars Palace in July because rehearsals for the show took a toll on her voice, she said on Instagram at the time.

Clarkson’s remaining shows were scheduled for Aug. 8-9 and 15-16, with the last batch of shows scheduled for Nov. 7-8 and 14-15, according to Caesars Entertainment.

In March, Clarkson also missed 10 consecutive tapings of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” for “personal reasons,” she said. A source told Nexstar’s NewsNation in April that Blackstock had been sick, and that Clarkson was taking their children to see him.

Blackstock and Clarkson were married in 2013 and split up in 2020. Their divorce was finalized in 2022.

They share a daughter, River Rose, 11, and a son, Remington Alexander, 9.
