WASHINGTON (WAVY) – The United States Coast Guard confirmed Monday that its military service members will receive their mid-month paycheck for Oct. 15.
The Coast Guard says the pay will be processed and deposited in the designated accounts between Oct. 15-17.
“Our people are the heart of the Coast Guard,” said Admiral Kevin Lunday, Acting Commandant. “We are grateful for the actions taken by President Trump and Secretary Noem to ensure that our members — who protect and defend our nation’s maritime borders and our citizens every day — receive the pay they have earned.”
10 On Your Side has reached out to other branches of the military to get further insight on their plans.
Air Force officials confirmed Tuesday that their service members have also begun to receive their paychecks.
In the meantime, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) said they are ready to help support sailors and marines who are impacted.
“As the government shutdown continues, 1.3 million active-duty military personnel still serving the nation with unwavering commitment, could miss their first paycheck on October 15,” explained the relief society. “For many, the absence of income has the possibility of bringing immediate financial strain.”
With that in mind, NMCRS has said they can help cover essential living expenses such as food, gas, utilities, childcare, and other urgent needs resulting from the shutdown until regular pay resumes.
According to NMCRS, eligible service members may receive a zero-interest loan of up to $2,000. NMCRS said they will prioritize support for those who do not have access to payroll protection plans or interest-free loans from their financial institutions.
Service members are encouraged to visit their nearest NMCRS Full-Service Office for personalized assistance. You can find yours by clicking here.
“Missing a paycheck is more than an inconvenience—it can be a crisis for many military families,” said Retired Navy Rear Adm. Dawn Cutler, chief operations officer for NMCRS.
Other options for those impacted are as follows:
- Contact your financial institution to ask about payroll protection plans or other zero-interest loan programs. Many banks and credit unions are offering temporary options; enroll if available.
- Contact your insurance companies as many are willing to defer payments or work out a plan with you.
- Delay/defer non-essential purchases.
- Contact landlords and creditors to let them know you are without a routine paycheck due to the government shutdown.
- Avoid “pay advance” products where you may incur extensive or hidden fees and high interest rates.
Verizon is also assisting their military customers. Starting Oct. 14, Verison has said they are offering flexible payment arrangement and payment deferrals for federal workers, military members, and first responders impacted. Customers needing assistance are asked to call 1-800-Verizon and will need to provide verification of their federal or military employment.
