PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth went into lockdown Wednesday night around the same time a gunshot victim walked into the hospital.

Lt. Bryant Hall with Portsmouth Police confirmed the hospital actually went into lockdown at 8:36 p.m., two minutes before the victim walked in.

There’s no word on the extent of the victim’s injuries at this time, but dispatchers confirmed gunshots were fired in the area of Cradock Middle School just minutes before.

Police are trying to learn exactly why the hospital went into lockdown. Multiple calls to Maryview by 10 On Your Side have gone unanswered.
