Man snuck loaded gun into Norfolk police holding cell, court docs say

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man snuck a loaded handgun into a holding cell at the Norfolk Police Operations Center last year, according to court documents

Darryl Blunt, is accused of sneaking a Ruger Model LCP .380 semiautomatic pistol under his clothes, and hiding it behind a sink in the cell on Oct. 18, 2017.

The incident happened after multiple searches and transports on the way to the cell, according to documents. He was arrested in connection to the armed robberies of pharmacies in Norfolk, which netted thousands of units of narcotics Blunt intended to sell, according to police.

Court documents say another inmate found the gun five days later and immediately notified jail officers.

He’s now in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail
