CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man charged with murder in a 2017 crash that took the life of a Norfolk man pleaded guilty Thursday morning in court.
WAVY’s Kara Dixon reports Courtney Horan could face up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Police said the fatal incident started when officers tried pull over Horan for an expired inspection sticker. Instead of stopping, Horan kept going until he rear-ended another vehicle, lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic.
Horan then hit a Chesapeake Waste Management truck head-on.
The driver of the truck, 51-year-old George Harris, died at the hospital several hours after the crash. Harris, who was affectionately called “‘Big Daddy”, was remembered for his big heart and love of the Dallas Cowboys.
Police said Horan was wanted out of Pennsylvania for larceny at the time of the crash.
Horan stated in court that he was also on probation at the time and still is on probation.
He was charged with second-degree murder.
Horan accepted a plea agreement from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
That deal included a condition that Horan will not face any further charges that could stem from the crash.
But there is not agreement regarding how many years the judge could sentence Horan.
He will be back in court on September 27 for his sentencing hearing.
