GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A Gates, North Carolina man was killed Saturday night after a collision with a deer led to a head-on crash, deputies say.
North Carolina Highway Patrol said 29-year-old Walter L. Kelly, Jr. was driving a Ford Mustang when he hit a deer near Middle Swamp Road and Clay Hill Road in Gates County just before 9:30 p.m.
Deputies say his car then crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck. Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries in the crash, deputies say.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
