PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was charged in connection to the 2015 shooting death of a woman in Portsmouth is facing five years in prison.

Darryl Faine pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a felon and concealing a dead body during a hearing on Tuesday.

Faine was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida last March in connection to the death of 26-year-old Monique Landis. Portsmouth police said Landis was shot and killed at in December 2015 at an apartment.

Faine claimed the shooting that led to Landis’ death was accidental.

Charges of use of a firearm in a felony and felon in possession of ammunition were nolle prossed — or withdrawn — during Tuesday’s hearing.

Faine was sentenced to 20 years total with 15 years suspended — leaving five to serve.
