JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been found guilty of murdering his mother last May in James City County.

Michael Alan Webb, who was 34 at the time of the crime, was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury in Williamsburg/James City County Circuit Court on Friday.

The murder happened at a home on Ferrell Drive in Williamsburg’s Brookside Haven neighborhood on May 16, 2017. Police arrived at the home of Edna Webb for a welfare check after she didn’t show up for work and found the 67-year-old dead in the kitchen. Officers said she showed signs of apparent blunt force trauma.

Officers later found Michael Webb about a half-mile down Ferrell Drive at a Happy Shopper convenience store on Pocahontas Trail. He was taken into custody for questioning and charged the day after with her murder.

Court documents showed Edna Webb had filed a summons for unlawful detainer in order to get her son, a convicted felon who’d made threats towards her, to leave the home they lived in together. A judgement in the civil case on May 15 meant Michael Webb had 30 days to leave the home.

His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
