The victim, 40-year-old Sanjuan Shy, was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, according to another tweet by Norfolk police.
Detectives have released a possible motive for the shooting or suspect details.
Shy’s daughter, Juaneesha Pittman, spoke with 10 On Your Side’s Aesia Toliver about her dad.
She said he was the father of five girls–the youngest only five months old. Pittman was at work when got the call that her father was killed.
“My sister called and she asked have I talked to my grandma, and I was like ‘what’s wrong? I’m at work’ and she was like daddy’s dead,” Pittman said.
She rushed to the hospital, but by the time she got there her father’s body was already taken to the Medical Examiner’s office. Now, she’s trying to piece together what happened to him and cope with the loss.
Pittman tells 10 On Your Side, “Just knowing I’m not going to see him again, just knowing he’s not a phone call away anymore when life gets hard for me. I just can’t call him anymore. He can’t come save the day. All of that is over.”
