YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A single engine plane crashed off of Lightfoot Road in the Williamsburg area Monday afternoon, Virginia State Police said.
State Police said there were no injuries in the crash, which took place at 213 Lightfoot Road and was called in at 5:26 p.m. The pilot was the only person in the plane, according to State Police.
This was not the scene nearby resident Sean Lawler and his granddaughter wanted to come home to Monday evening, with a small plane crashing in a field next to the Kelton Station townhomes.
“God bless that pilot, because he did such a good job of avoiding [us],” Lawler said. “This could’ve been a big tragedy.”

The pilot was was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated and checked out as troopers were still on the scene Monday evening investigating the crash.
“I heard this loud-like bang,” said nearby resident Mila Madden. “I couldn’t tell if it was a car, or if something had happened.”
Residents say they are grateful things didn’t turn out worse.
“Just think if he would’ve landed 50 feet to the left,” Lawler said. “It would’ve been a lot worse.”
