YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Lanes on Victory Boulevard will be closed through late summer beginning Monday due to construction on the median as part of the widening project for the boulevard, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The westbound left lane on Victory Boulevard/Route 171 between Bowman Terrace to just past Hampton Highway/Route 134 will close during this work.
Also, the eastbound left-turn lane from Victory Boulevard to Hampton Highway will close. A signed-detour will be in place to direct traffic via Victory Boulevard to Yorktown Road.
Going westbound on Victory Boulevard, the inside left-turn lane from Victory Boulevard to George Washington Memorial Highway/Route 17 will close, but the outside left-turn lane will stay open to traffic.
VDOT says the work will take several weeks, but noted the work is weather- and schedule-dependent.
Construction on the $4.6 million Victory Boulevard widening project began in March. VDOT said the project is to allow for more vehicles and reduce congestion through road widening and turn-lane improvements on Victory Boulevard between George Washington Memorial Highway and Hampton Highway.
When complete, Victory Boulevard will go from five to six lanes between George Washington Memorial Highway and Hampton Highway, with a third eastbound lane going on Victory Boulevard between George Washington Memorial Highway and Hampton Highway.
The westbound right-turn lane on Victory Boulevard at Kiln Creek Parkway is also being extended to connect to the existing acceleration lane at the entrance to the Walmart Supercenter, which will create a fourth full-length westbound travel lane on Victory Boulevard.
