YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An apartment complex was temporarily evacuated in York County Saturday evening following a hazardous materials incident.
Personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to an emergency call reporting an individual had dumped unknown chemicals into the dumpster at the Four Seasons apartment complex on Hampton Highway, which began emitting smoke.
First responders found just under five gallons of acid inside the dumper and temporarily evacuated the apartment complex.
Crews remained on scene to neutralize the materials and clean up. A representative from the Virginia Department of Emergency Managment Hazardous Materials Response Program was also on scene.
There were no injuries reported, and all residents were permitted to return to their homes.
