YORK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman is facing grand larceny auto charges after a car with a dog inside was stolen from a Walmart parking lot on Monday.
According to officials, around 8:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Walmart at 2601 George Washington Memorial Highway for reports of a stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival to the scene, the victim told deputies that she parked her vehicle in the parking lot around 8:25 p.m. and left the car running for her small dog, saying she was concerned about the heat. The victim then stated her vehicle was gone by the time she left the store.
Using the Flock camera system, deputies were able to locate the vehicle in the area of George Washington Memorial Highway and Battle Road. Shortly afterwards, deputies stopped the car and arrested the driver, 36-year-old Melissa Ann Evans.
Evans was then charged with grand larceny auto in connection with the incident.
The victim was eventually reunited with her dog and vehicle.
