YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man was recently arrested in connection with a football recruiting scam, deputies said.

According to officials, deputies were contacted on March 12, 2025 about a person who had scammed an individual out of over $20,000. The victim told deputies the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Malcolm Xavier Walker, had posed as a high school football recruiter, saying he could get the victim’s son a college football scholarship.

Deputies said Walker told the victim he would help to set up visits to colleges, create recruiting videos and arrange travel to football seminars — none of which happened.

Eventually, Walker stopped communicating with the victim, deputies said.

An initial investigation revealed that Walker had committed similar crimes across several states along the East Coast. Shortly afterwards, deputies were able to obtain a felony warrant, leading to Walker’s arrest in Georgia.

Deputies said that Walker was arrested and charged with larceny by false pretense. He was extradited to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on July 31, 2025.
