GRAFTON, Va. (WAVY) — A husband and wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in York County Monday morning, deputies said.
Just after 9 a.m. Monday, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 139 Kitty Drive in Grafton as a result of a “fall alert” that came into the 911 center.
Whey they arrived they found a man in his 80s and an elderly woman in her 70s both dead from gunshot wounds.
The investigation is being conducted as a suspected domestic murder-suicide according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson. The man shot the woman, and then took his own life. The sheriff’s office declined to identify the victim, but they said it does not appear to be a mercy killing, which is a case where someone in the couple may be dealing with a terminal illness and the spouse takes matters in their own hands to end their pain.
Neighbors WAVY spoke with said they were some of the best neighbors they ever could have. They said it was a shock to find out what happened.
