ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A 35-year-old woman was charged with second-degree murder Thursday following a domestic dispute with her husband.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., Elizabeth City Police Department officers responded to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in reference to a reported gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by hospital staff that the victim, 39-year-old DeVaughan Leon Bell had died from his injuries.

An investigation determined the victim’s wife, Tanyce Kionna Griffin Bell, 35, shot her husband.

Neighbors say this news is shocking.

“There was a lot of I guess kin that lived in that house. For something like that to go on or happen with the amount of people who live in that home, that kind of surprised me,” said one neighbor.

Mrs. Bell is currently being held at the Albemarle District Jail under No Bond. Her first court appearance is set for Monday, Dec. 30.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
