VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach’s director of economic development has resigned after just a little over a year on the job.

Charles “Chuck” Rigney Sr. had been in the official role since February, after serving as interim director since June 2023.

It’s unclear why Rigney resigned at this time. City spokesperson Ali Weatherton-Shook says the city couldn’t comment further, as it’s a personnel matter. She says Rigney resigned on July 24. Deputy City Manager Amanda Jarratt meanwhile will take over in an interim role.

Rigney replaced the city’s former economic development director Taylor Adams, who resigned back in May 2023. Adams left to lead the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN).

Rigney could not be reached for comment on Friday.
