Virginia Beach City Council to hold public hearings for proposed budget

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach City Council is holding public hearings to get residents’ input on the proposed city budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

On March 25, City Manager Patrick Duhaney presented the proposed FY 2025-2026 budget to City Council.

The total proposed operating budget of $2.8 billion represents a 4.74% increase over last year’s amended budget. The Virginia Beach City Public Schools budget comprises $1.2 billion of that amount.

On Tuesday, several city department heads presented budget plans for their individual departments to city council, while other department heads will present in a special City Council session Thursday.

According to the city, residents are encouraged to provide feedback about the proposed budget, and they have created several ways for residents to do so.

Residents who wish to make comments during these hearings must register with the City Clerk’s Office by calling (757) 385-4304 prior to 5 p.m. on the day of the hearing.
