VBSPCA holds holiday fostering event

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach SPCA recently held a holiday fostering event.

The annual Holiday Elf Program allows people from the community to foster animals from the shelter from Sunday, Dec. 22, to Thursday, Dec. 26.

Matt Wurzburger, VBSPCA Digital Specialist, told 10 On Your Side they have at least one adoption come out of the holiday program every year.

But Wurzburger said that’s not their main goal, pointing out that the final part of fostering includes the foster parent sending a note back with the animal about how they did.

“That is actually a very important part of fostering, in general, is learning more about these animals and how they behave outside of a shelter environment,” Wurzburger said.

He advises anyone wanting to become a “holiday elf foster” to email them at foster@VBSPCA.com.

From there, the foster team will get some information on you and pair you up with an animal that best suits your home and lifestyle.
