VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash Tuesday night.
Dispatchers said the call reporting the crash came in just before 8:30 p.m. Police said the crash was in the 5800 block of Blackwater Road.
A preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 34-year-old Jason Patrick Mallon, was traveling south on Blackwater Road at a high rate of speed before the crash.
Police say Mallon lost control while traveling through a curve causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn several times before ending up in a field.
Mallon was ejected and located near the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police did not release additional information.
Correction: Police initially said the crash happened on Princess Anne Road. The correct location is on Blackwater Road.
