VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Children in Virginia Beach are soaking up the spring weather on a brand new slide down the side of Mount Trashmore, part of $1.6 million in renovations to the Kids Cove area of the park, which besides a slide, includes musical instruments and several areas to climb back up the “mountain.”

Virginia Beach mom Victoria Rice said she came to Mount Trashmore as a kid and is excited to bring her son there now.

“When I was little, we didn’t have this here,” Rice said. “It was actually a lot different. It was all wooden but I’m excited for him to, kind of, experience what I had as a child.”

Lilianna Risty spent part of her 13th birthday at the new park.

“I think it’s just so cool how they invented all those little things that are also at the airport and you just slide down it,” Risty said. “I think it’s so fun and it’s great. It’s a different type of slide.”

This is all part of a larger Mount Trashmore expansion project started in 2024.
