VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries following a crash on the 3700 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. Saturday afternoon, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department. On Monday, police confirmed the crash was fatal.

Officers say the crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle happened around 12:55 p.m. Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

The motorcyclist, Nicholas Rizzotti, 21, later died in the hospital after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash revealed Rizzotti was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Virginia Beach Boulevard when he failed to stop at a red traffic signal.

The two drivers collided after the vehicle was turning eastbound onto Virginia Beach Boulevard, according to Virginia Beach Police.

As a result of the incident, Virginia Beach Boulevard was closed between Rosemont Road and Lynn Shores Drive. All lanes have since reopened.
