VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  (WAVY) — A man convicted for killing two people in Virginia Beach is facing more than two life terms in prison.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle said Wednesday Leonard Allen Morrison and a co-conspirator, James Gregory, planned to rob John Rathjen and Rayvone Miles on Archives Court the evening of June 10, 2017.

Prosecutors said Gregory and Morrison entered the home and each shot to the two victims twice, before taking their wallets, phones, and electronics. A resident doing highway cleanup the next day found one of the stolen phones on the side of the road.

Hampton police arrested Gregory and Morrison a few days later in connection to a robbery and police-involved shooting.

A jury found Morrison guilty of two counts each of first-degree murder, robbery and use of a firearm in a felony for the murders of Rathjen and Miles. Jurors fixed his sentencing at two life terms plus 28 years in prison.

James Gregory’s trial is scheduled to begin May 8. Morrison will be formally sentenced on Aug. 6.
