Dates announced for 2025 NAS Oceana Airshow

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The dates for the 2025 Naval Air Station Oceana Airshow were announced Tuesday morning.

The announcement took place at 8 a.m., and was given by Capt. Josh Appezzato, commanding officer of NAS Oceana.

During the announcement, Appezzato said the airshow will take place Sept. 20-21 and will feature the Blue Angels, the F-22 Raptor, the F-35C and the Navy Rhino Demo Team. This year’s airshow will coincide with the Navy’s 250th anniversary.

“The airshow is part of the fabric of the community, a great opportunity for us to give back, put fantastic aerial demonstrations, the Blue Angels, the F-22 Raptor demo team this year, the F-35 Lightnings and many others,” Appezzato said.

The free airshow is expected to bring more than 300,000 people to NAS Oceana. Navy officials said it’s also an opportunity for them to open up their doors to the community.

“The Oceana Airshow is the Navy’s largest open house,” Appezzato said. “Last year, we had a record 346,000 people.”

During this year’s event, the Navy will be inviting 5th grade students from Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Chesapeake Public Schools to attend the airshow’s practice day Friday, Sept. 19 as part of a STEM education field trip.

“This year, our theme reflects not only the history and tradition of our Navy, but also the innovative spirit of naval aviation — which continues to inspire future generations of American youth,” Appezzato said. “Whether these students dream of flying a fighter jet or exploring the depths of our oceans, our goal is simple at Oceana: create leaders, explorers, and innovators — and have a lot of fun in the process.”

The event is free for all to attend. Guests 18 years and older are required to show a physical photo ID upon entry.
