VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Court documents reveal alarming new details following the arrest of a former Virginia Beach City Public Schools teacher.
Joseph Molineaux, 59, was arrested in the parking lot of Kempsville High School Friday. Police charged him with trespassing, but said he never entered the school.
Court documents obtained by WAVY state Molineaux texted his mom a threatening message the day before his arrest. The checklist for bail determination states that Molineaux threatened to “mow down” Walmart and Kempsville High School administration if his dog didn’t keep him grounded.
Brittani Ebron’s son is a student at Kempsville, and so is Amber Harold’s daughter. Both parents say their kids will transfer after the current school year.
“Why would [Molineaux] do that?” Ebron asked. “You’re a retired teacher and you know there are kids around the school. You could harm children.”
“It’s scary,” Harold said. “We send our kids to learn and we want to make sure they get home safe.”
Molineaux lives in the Alexandria subdivision off Centreville Turnpike. A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous said Molineaux has three dogs, and the largest of the three has been off-leash and chased children. In a dispute about the dog in November, Molineaux threatened his life, the neighbor said. The neighbor added Molineaux would often fire his guns.
“When President Trump was elected, Molineaux walked up and down the street firing his guns, yelling at the top of his lungs, ‘I told you, I knew I was right.'”
According to police, they received a request for a welfare check for Molineaux April 25 and officers located him at the school, where he was taken into custody.
Paperwork states that at the time of his arrest, police found two large knives and a hatchet in his vehicle. When police executed a search warrant at his home, they found two AK-style firearms.
Molineaux told police he meant no harm and was drunk at the time, the documents state. He said he was frustrated and was just venting to his mother.
In addition to trespassing, police charged Molineaux with possession of a weapon on school property and felony threat to commit serious bodily harm.

Documents also show five charges pending in York County for threats in writing. The York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed those charges stem from a report they took April 22. The sheriff said Molineaux is accused of sending family members threatening texts. As a result of the investigation, they obtained five felony warrants for threats to do bodily harm.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools confirmed Molineaux was hired by the school division in August 1999 and said he retired in February 2023 as a physical education teacher at Kempsville High School.
WAVY has confirmed Molineaux was also a physical education teacher in York County. The school district said Molineaux was employed by the division from 1990-2000.
Molineaux has a 1987 DUI conviction in York-Poquoson Circuit Court. Posts on WAVY’s social media said Molineaux taught driver’s-ed.
According to a 1998 article by the Daily Press, the York County School Board reclassified Molineaux as a textbook inventory custodian after he was sentenced to six months in jail for hit-and-run and DUI. York County Schools confirmed to WAVY that he worked in that role from 1998-2000.
Molineaux’s next court date is July 24, 2025 for a preliminary hearing.
