VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.(WAVY)– Crews in Virginia Beach responded to an early morning fire at a convenience store.

According to officials, crews were called to the “To Go” convenience store located in the 1800 block of Kempsville Road just before 1 a.m. for the report of a commercial structure fire. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building.

Teju Patadia is the owner, he says he is shocked and devasted after getting the news of his store early this morning.

“We have only had it for a month and a half. But it still hurts to know that something like this happened. But again, thankfully, you know, we know nobody was injured and nobody was there,” said Patadia.

10 On Your Side was there all morning as crews and multiple fire trucks had their ladders sky high to put out the flames.

Patadia tells us that the new store took over the old 7/11, but despite the damage, they are still looking to the future trying to get it back open.

“We are going to get a lot of support from the whole community. And that’s that’s going to keep us going that, you know, even to reopen and everything support. We had a lot of good customers over there,” said Patadia.

The fire was marked out just before 3 a.m.

No civilians or firefighters were injured. Fire officials say the store appeared to be closed at the time of the incident.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
