Man arrested after bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash on Virginia Beach Boulevard

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested the driver they say fatally struck a bicyclist Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash.

The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard in Virginia Beach.

Officers arrived to find a man who had been riding a Trek bicycle in the roadway. He died from his injuries at the scene.

Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Christopher E. Warren.

Investigators believe the car was heading east when the driver hit the bicyclist and fled, continuing in the same direction of travel.

Police later arrested 43-year-old Terrence Sterling Ashby after they said they were looking for a dark blue Mercedes-Benz sedan. The vehicle had significant damage to the driver’s side door area, a shattered windshield, scuffs on the hood, a broken left headlight and missing driver’s side mirror.

Ashby’s vehicle was later found in the parking lot of an autobody shop.

Ashby is charged with felony hit-and-run and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Additional charges may be pending, police said.

He is being held without bond at the Virginia Beach jail.
