3 more arrests made from Virginia Beach spring break weekend: VBPD

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Police Department confirmed three more arrests were made in connection to a shooting incident on spring break weekend.

Police responded to a shots-fired call around 3:18 a.m. April 27, with a report of shots being fired at the intersection of 23rd Street and Atlantic Avenue.


Officers received a ShotSpotter alert at 3:18 a.m. and confirmed the shooting upon arriving on the scene. VBPD has seized three firearms in the incident, one was equipped with a trigger switch and an extended magazine, and charged these individuals.

Nashun Simmons, 23, was charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm, concealment of a firearm, possession of a switch activator, felony destruction of property, shooting in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm, and use of a machine gun. 

Jay’nod Harvey, 22, was charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a trigger activator, wearing a mask in public in commission of a felony, providing false identification to police, and unlawful possession of an extended magazine. 

Mark Aranjo, 23, was charged with possession of a switch activator and use of a machine gun.

On April 29, VBPD reported that 53 arrests and 200 charges were given out during the spring break weekend, which occurred between April 25-27. In addition, 28 guns were also seized during the weekend.

Police say the investigation into this latest incident is still ongoing.
