Cold case murder of Karen Ann Wheeler remains unsolved after 30 years

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Cold Case Homicide Unit is asking the public to come forward with any information regarding the murder of Karen Ann Wheeler.

On January 16, 1991, a construction worker discovered Wheeler’s body inside a green canvass military style duffel bag lying in a ditch along the 700 block of General Booth Boulevard.


The bag and body were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where the death was ruled a homicide.

Wheeler was a 21-year-old woman, who was approximately 5-foot-1 and 120 pounds with blonde hair, blue eyes and a scar on her left hand. She had last been seen on Nov. 29, 1990.
