ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man and woman were arrested for drug and firearm charges following a disturbance complaint Thursday morning in Elizabeth City.

Officers with the Elizabeth City Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance at the intersection of Hughes Boulevard and Halstead Boulevard at approximately 9:20 a.m.

When officers arrived, they located a firearm and marijuana.

Donald Edward Spencer Jr., 31, and Kezia Ja’nique Simpson, 23, were subsequently taken into custody.

Spencer was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and violation of a domestic violence protection order. He was processed and taken to Pasquotank County District Court for his initial appearance. He was issued a $15,000.00 secured bond and later released.

Simpson was cited for simple possession of marijuana. She was released at the scene and is scheduled to appear in Pasquotank County District Court on Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
