PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – With as much as a foot of snow falling in some parts of Hampton Roads, plenty of people were probably hoping to build a snowman. Unfortunately, the kind of snow that fell Wednesday was not good snowman building snow. It’s too light, fluffy and dry.
A mix of wet, powdery snow is what you want. If it’s too dry and powdery, it won’t stick together and hold its shape.
If you are snowed in and the kiddos are getting a little stir crazy, there are still plenty of other ways to enjoy the snow days. Just be sure to bundle up in lots of layers. Here are a few ideas:
- Go sledding.
- Have an epic snowball fight.
- Make snow angels.
- Identify animal tracks.
- Make snow ice cream.
- Blow snow bubbles. The temperature needs to be at or below freezing.
- Snow painting. Mix water with food coloring and fill squirt bottles.
- Play footprint tag. You can only step in each others footprints.
- Scavenger hunt. Hide items in the snow and go searching for them.
- Shovel snow.
The Super Doppler 10 Meteorologists say the snowfall will stick around for a while, with freezing temps persisting. Click here for the latest forecast.
