SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A former medical professional in Suffolk is facing multiple animal cruelty charges after authorities removed several dogs from her property.

Suffolk officials said Shawne Bryant, 68, is accused of mistreating animals on Hosier Road. Investigators removed six adult dogs and four puppies, all Pyrenees mixes, from the property.

Drone footage captured at the scene showed a secluded property with rusted cars, trailers and scattered debris. A lone horse was visible, but no kennels or cages were seen.

Bryant has been charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty, 15 counts of depriving animals of food and shelter, 22 counts of inadequate care and two counts of inadequate space.

When confronted, Bryant declined to comment, but claimed there was another side to the story.

Suffolk officials said they are working on providing further details about the case. A public records request has been submitted for additional information.

This is a developing story.
